“I didn’t know you understood Spanish?” Marly said, looking up into his smiling eyes.
“It’s Portuguese, lovie, Brazilian actually. This is one of my most favourite songs, Saudade Bandida.”
“What does that mean?”
“Saudade, there’s no direct translation for the word. The closest way to explain it is a feeling of longing, nostalgia and melancholy."
“Aww... how appropriate for a Goth,” she quipped.
He gave her an indulgent smile. “Bandida, means little bandit. Which is what you are, my little melancholy bandit, because you’ve up and stolen my heart.”
She couldn’t help but beam at him. He always knew exactly what she needed to hear, and he never ceased to impress her with his knowledge. “You speak Portuguese?”
“I know enough to get me through a few songs. It’s a dreadfully romantic language. I can’t help but love it.”
“It sure sounds that way to me,” she agreed, once again resting her head against his chest while he continued to sing.
Moments later that song finished, and the buskers switched flawlessly into what sounded like a country slow song. Marly was again surprised at how well Gray handled the new tune.
He put a little more dip into his hips, a bit more swagger into his sway. Then the girl started to sing. “Ah, how perfect,” he chuckled ever so pleased. “The stars must be with us tonight.”
“You like this song too?” she asked, surprised. A Latin music loving Goth was one thing, but a Country music loving Goth was kind of hard to figure.
“When You Say Nothing At All, by Alison Krauss & Union Station,” he said with a reverent nod. “I cannot think of a more perfect song for us to call our own.”
“Oh, Gray, you are such a romantic soul,” she said with a big smile.
“I am rather ridiculous, aren’t I?” he chuckled.
“Wonderful, is what you are,” she said, once again, resting her head on his chest.
